LeBron James MVP Laser Projection
In 2009, Lightwave International delivered a breathtaking laser spectacle to celebrate Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James on his first NBA MVP award—for Nike, on just 24 hours’ notice.
We projected a massive, full-color laser display onto a 100′ x 212′ screen adjacent to Quicken Loans Arena (now Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse), transforming the building’s dark exterior into a vibrant, city-defining tribute.
Leveraging the world’s most powerful entertainment lasers at the time—record-holding systems with unmatched output—we overcame the challenging black projection surface to create stunning visibility.
Our innovative laser stacking techniques produced exceptionally bright, camera-friendly images that looked identical in photos and videos to what the eye saw live.
Thousands of fans captured shareable shots with everything from cellphones to point-and-shoot cameras, flooding platforms like Flickr, YouTube, Facebook, and early Twitter with user-generated content.
Network news crews and blimp-mounted cameras also captured crystal-clear footage with ease, earning Nike extensive airtime across major broadcasts.
To elevate the display into true artistry, our visual designers integrated a complementary lighting package. Strategic laser cutouts around LeBron’s figure, combined with precise illumination, added remarkable depth and realism—creating a 3D-like presence that captivated crowds in person and left a lasting impression.
This high-stakes, lightning-fast project showcased Lightwave’s leadership in high-power laser technology, rapid execution, and creative problem-solving—delivering unforgettable results under intense pressure.
